Lovely modern boat from Naxos to Mykonos, airconditioned, comfortable, spotless. Baggage storage a bit of a free for all but it worked. Only gripe is that tickets are not emailed, only the confirmation. So arrive Naxos port to find a (small) bit of paper saying you need to walk 300m to a ticketing shop, pay 1 Euro to get your ticket printed, and walk back. This seems unnecessary grit (especially as you have luggage with you) - why not just email a printable ticket, or a mobile one?

Read More Read LessThe Greek island of Naxos is part of the Cyclades group of islands that lie in the Aegean Sea. Naxos City, or Chora, is the island's largest town and capital and is built amphitheatrically on the island's west coast. It is also home to one of the biggest ports in the Aegean Sea. The town is popular with tourists and as a result there are many bars, restaurants and cafes to cater for them. The small island of Palatia, which extends from the mainland of Naxos, is the town's emblem. Located on the small island is Portara, which is a monument resembling a door standing alone, without any walls attached to either side. A visit to Portara is advisable, especially after your swim, whilst the sun is setting.
The island is also well known for its food and for producing the famous Naxian potatoes, wine, Kitron liquor productions and the popular cheese called Graviera. There are many restaurants located throughout the island serving local produce to the many tourists who visit.
From the island's port ferries depart to Piraeus (Athens) and to the other islands in the Cyclades.
The Greek island of Sifnos is located in the western end of the Cyclades group of islands and is typical of the islands of the Cyclades with its traditional architecture, lovely calm beaches, pretty tavernas and hills. The island's south coast is where most of its popular beaches are located and many have soft sand, crystal clear water and good facilities. A popular attraction on the island is the lovely Monastery of Chrissopighi which is the island's protector. The most picturesque village on the island is Kastro, which is surrounded on three sides by views of the Aegean Sea, and is characterised by narrow streets, stone built houses and beautiful views of the sea. The village can trace its history back 4,000 years with evidence of its past visible in many places and includes part of its defensive wall which was built in around 800 BC.
The island's port is located in the town of Kamares. During the summer months there are daily services of both high speed and conventional ferries to the island. Ferries connect Sifnos with Piraeus and to the other Cycladic islands such as Serifos, Folegandros, Kythnos, Milos, Ios, Santorini and Crete.
