The US city of Fort Lauderdale is located in the State of Florida and lies on the Atlantic Ocean coast, roughly 40 km to the north of Miami. The International Swimming Hall of Fame is located on Fort Lauderdale beach, and houses a large aquatic complex as well as a museum, theatre, and research library.

There is a daily ferry service between Fort Lauderdale and Freeport, on the Grand Bahama Island. The 76 mile journey takes roughly 2 1/2 hours
