  • "Smooth crossing"

Only point to make was that if taxi driver hadnt dropped us off at the Bluestar ferries office in Kos in order to check in we wouldnt have known where to go. We would have gone straight to the dock which is a fair distance from where the office was. Ither than that we werent sure if you could just check in at the little ticket office at the dock. Dont think it says anywhere on the confirmation

  • "Piraeus - Syros"

Direct Ferries were efficient and helpful. Useful cancellation alert and rebooking service. Only issue are no alert for further cancellations and website travel alert tab doesn't have information on cancellations/alternative sailings for Greece. Blue Star Line and Blue Star 1 - Amazingly professional and smart as ever. Only issue, no cancellation/alternative sailings information on their website that I could find.

Leros Guide

The Greek island of Leros is one of the Dodecanese islands that are located in the Aegean Sea, and is around 200 km from the port of Piraeus. Leros is close to the neighbouring islands of Patmos, Lipsi, Kalymnos, Agia Kyriaki and Farmakos. The small island, measuring around 74 sq. km, has a population of just under 8,000 residents, which doubles during the summer in order to cater for visiting tourists. The beaches of Partheni and Blefouti in the north of the island are popular with tourists, as are the beaches of Gourna, Kokali and Ayia Isidoros on the west side of the island and the large bay of Alinda in the central eastern part of the island. The bay of Alinda is also home to Pangias and Crithoni beaches. The picturesque port of Agia Marina lies to the south east of the bay of Alinda, which is around a 10 minute walk to Platanos, the heart of the island.

The journey time from Piraeus to the island by ferry is around 11 hours. Leros also has also daily connections by conventional ferry and hydrofoil to most of the Greek islands of Dodecanese like Patmos, Lipsi, Samos, Kos, Rhodes, Symi and Nisyros. There are also weekly connection to some of the islands of the Cyclades like Syros and Amorgos.

Syros Guide

The Greek island of Syros is one of the Cyclades group of islands and is unusual in that the island's architecture is more medieval rather than the more typical Cycladic. The island's capital is Ermoupolis and has some fine examples of Venetian mansions to see. In the Vaporia quarter of the capital visitors will find some lovely large churches and impressive neoclassical buildings, such as the Town Hall and Apollo Theatre in the central square. Also popular with visitors are the island's beaches which are well equipped for tourists and have a good range of facilities.

The island can trace its history back to the 3rd millennium BC where signs of inhabitation have been found in the Halandriani and Kastri parts of the island. Artefacts found indicate that there was some kind of metal workshop on the island which possibly had a trading relationship with Asia Minor. The Samians occupied the island in the 6th century BC and is when many of the island's inhabitants moved to the island. At that time, the important physician and philosopher Pherecydis was born in Syros and some years later he went to Samos and became the teacher of Pythagoras.
