Sandwiched between two pristine pink-sand beach-fronts, on the central isthmus of Eleuthera island in the Bahamas, is the tiny community of Governor’s Harbour. Despite being close to the lively city of Miami on the coast of mainland America, the town has retained its peaceful allure and still possesses an untouched tropical beauty. When the sun sets on the island, after the fisherman of Governor’s Harbour have finished reeling in their daily catch from the glistening depths of the Atlantic, the entire area is bathed in a magnificent evening glow that casts playful shadows between the broad palm fronds along the coast. The port of Governor’s Harbour is found at the end of a narrow spit of land on the western edge of town. It sits on a rocky section of the coastline overlooking the turquoise waters of a natural bay. The ferry terminal here is little more than a concrete anchorage, devoid of any passenger amenities, crowned by a breakwater. Those driving to the port can join the Queen’s Highway that stretches point-to-point across the entirety of Eleuthera island and cuts directly through Governor’s Harbour. A small airport is located just 8-miles north too, though planes here only fly to the Bahaman capital of Nassau. Ferries sail from the port twice a week. A Bahamas Ferries service whisks passengers west to the city of Nassau found on one of the central islands of the Bahamas Archipelago, a route that skims across the crystalline surface of the ocean before coming within view of the holiday villas that pepper the island coast.
