Calvi Guide

Located on the island of Corsica, in the Haute-Corse department in France, the town and port of Calvi is around 95 km from Bastia and 24 km from L'ile-Rousse. The town is the seat of the Canton of Calvi and is the capital of the Arrondissement of Calvi. It is also home to the 2nd Foreign parachute Regiment of the French Foreign Legion. When the town was part of the Genoese Empire is was reputedly the birth town of Christopher Columbus.

The city's modern ferry terminal is located a short walk from the city centre and has facilities that include toilets, vending machines and a small snack bar. Visitors should note that many more facilities and services are available a short distance from the terminal. Ferry services using the port depart to Nice, with a crossing time of around 3 hours on the express service and between 5 and 6 hours on the shuttle service, and to Marseille once a week.

The French city of Nice is the capital of the Cote d'Azur and is a world famous cosmopolitan tourist destination and is perfect for sun lovers. The coastline around the city is spectacular and is popular all year round with its warm and sunny summer months, and mild winters. Another popular pastime whilst in the city is to take a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais (the Promenade of the English) which dates back nearly 200 years and borders the city's Mediterranean Sea coast and runs for about 6 km. There are many beautiful spots along the promenade where visitors like to sit and take in the spectacular views. The coastline of Nice is full of tourist attractions, and nearby there are also a number of appealing Côte d'Azur towns and cities. Also close to Nice are many traditional Provençal villages, which are full of character.
