Motril ferry port is situated in the south-east of Spain, 120 km to the north of Almeria. Over the last few years, the port has providing direct connections to the North African coast. The Moroccan port of Tangier Med is located around 40 kilometres east of Tangier ville and is one of the biggest ferry ports in Africa. Tangier Med connects Morocco with the South and east Mediterranean coast of Spain, the south of France and the northern Italian coast. When it launched in 2007, almost all of the ferry services were transferred from the existing port in Tangier Ville to the new facility at Tangier Med. Geographically closer to the ferry ports it connects to than the port at Tangier ville, Tangier Med is also well connected to the national motorway network. As a relatively new and therefore modern port, it is well equipped to receive both tourist and commercial traffic.
