Armadale is a small village so you can easily explore it on foot. However, we’d recommend bringing or renting a car so you can go on to explore the rest of the Isle of Skye.
Armadale is a busy port, with Caledonian MacBrayne offering regular services to and from Mallaig in mainland Scotland. Ferries operate all year round, although there’s often a reduced service in the winter months.
The port is located at the southern end of the Isle of Skye in the Sleat Peninsula. To reach it by car, follow signs to Broadford/Skye Bridge. Turn right on the A851 and then follow the signs to Armadale/Ferry. Stagecoach also operate a bus service (number 52) between Broadford and Armadale ferry port.

Mallaig is a small fishing village located on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. It’s known as the gateway to the islands with regular ferries to the Isle of Skye and the Small Isles. Although before you catch your ferry, it’s worth spending some time exploring Mallaig. Experience vibrant local life at its working fishing port, watch the famous Jacobite steam train arrive, sample the most delicious seafood and soak up the stunning scenery.
The village is small so it's easy to get around on foot. Taxis are also available should you need them.
Mallaig port is a busy port, offering year-round services to the Scottish islands including the Isle of Skye and the Small Isles. Caledonian MacBrayne are the main ferry company operating out of the ferry port. As well as serving ferries, Mallaig port is also a working fishing port.
There is no parking available at the ferry terminal. However, there's a long-stay paid car park located around 5 minutes from the terminal.
