With lush rolling hills providing the backdrop to fairytale villages where honey-coloured cottages, cute cafes and art galleries sit side by side, the Cotswolds is the epitome of a quintessential British countryside staycation.
Stays here are all about hopping from one idyllic town to the next, enjoying scenic walks through picture-perfect landscapes and stopping at cosy pubs for a hearty roast and a glass of red.
Each village has its own charm, but Castle Combe, Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury often steal the spotlight – admire historic architecture, wander the cobblestone streets and stop for a fresh pastry and coffee in a quaint café. And if you fancy more of a buzz, the cities of Bath and Oxford are also within easy reach.
Don’t forget your walking boots—the Cotswolds is a dream destination for hikers. The Cotswold Way is one of the most famous routes, stretching from Chipping Campden to Bath, winding past picture-perfect villages, historic sights and rolling hills. There are plenty of shorter walks too, all offering stunning views of the green countryside the region is known for.

With its diverse landscapes, Devon is hard to beat when it comes to a UK staycation. Beach-wise, you’ve got two separate coastlines offering two very different vibes. The north Devon coastline is wilder and more dramatic, known for its excellent surf scene, with beaches like Croyde Bay and Woolacombe among the best places to ride the waves.
Then there’s the calmer south Devon coastline, where sheltered bays like Blackpool Sands offer the perfect setting for family beach days. On this side, you’ll also find picturesque towns like Salcombe, Dartmouth and Totnes, with their charming streets, seafood restaurants and independent shops.
If you’re looking for more than just a beach getaway, Devon is also home to the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. Here you can spot wild ponies, hike up granite tors, cycle across open moorland, discover hidden waterfalls and explore ancient churches.
Must-do: After a day of exploring, enjoy a traditional cream tea in one of the local cafés for a true Devonshire experience.

Who needs a beach when you’ve got stunning lakes? If country walks, traditional pub dinners, and lakeside retreats sound like your idea of the perfect staycation then a trip to the Lake District is just what you need.
Many visitors choose to base themselves in Bowness-on-Windermere, a lively lakeside town full of shops, cafés and restaurants, with Lake Windermere's outdoor activities just a stone’s throw away. The picturesque towns of Keswick and Ambleside are also popular, or for something a little quieter, Coniston makes a great alternative. The charming village has a handful of cafés and pubs, along with a beautiful lake that feels far less crowded than Windermere.
Days in the Lake District are best spent enjoying scenic hikes through the countryside, exploring pretty market towns, or getting out on the water - rent a boat or try paddleboarding, kayaking or canoeing across the glistening lakes.
