Ferries to Hvar Island

The Croatian island of Hvar is located to the south west of the country off the Dalmatian coast and is around six kilometres from the mainland at its closest point.

Like many destinations along the coast of Dalmatia, Hvar Island has become increasingly popular with international holidaymakers in recent years. No doubt attracted by the beautiful beaches and warm climate, Hvar regularly appears in lists of must see islands in travel magazines and websites

Hvar Island has four towns, namely Hvar (town), Sućuraj, Stari Grad and Jelsa. Hvar town, on the west side of the island is the largest town, the main tourist spot and also houses more than a third of the local population. Stari Grad, on the north west side is the second largest town and one of the oldest towns in Europe.

For those travelling by ferry to Hvar Island, connections are currently available across the Adriatic Sea from Italy with a choice of routes operated by a number of well-known ferry companies. The sailing schedule is built around high season meaning that ferries operate only in July and August.

Snav operate the most frequent and fastest crossing which travels between Pescara and Havr town, though this service is foot passenger only. If you want to take a vehicle, then you’ll need to travel from Ancona to Stari Grad.

Hvar Island reviews

  • "Exceptionally good experience "

From the online booking interface to the boarding procedure, through the reception and accompanying process, everything was perfect. The room was comfortable, clean, new and neat. The restaurant facility was outstanding. Professionally managed service, throughout.

  • "Better than expected"

Lovely way to cross the Adriatic Sea. We slept well in the cabin. Everything was clean. Staff ‘old hands’ at the job.

  • "Ferry trip made easy."

I booked at the main ferry terminal and the girls were very helpful, went above and beyond the role. The trip was great, smooth sailing and I recommend the passengers add value to their trip by getting on board tickets for dinner and breakfast.

  • "Great trip"

Only complaint is it was freezing and there were no plugs in the reclining seat area.
