Ventotene Guide

What is there to do in Ventotene?

Ventotene is like Italy’s rugged, older brother; jagged rock formations are dotted around the turbulent coastline and colourful buildings stand proud in the harbour. Some visitors only choose to stay for a day trip, rushing around the gorgeous architecture and undulating terrain, but Ventotene’s authentic charm deserves to be cherished for a few days at the least. Those that do choose to stay for an extra day or two often venture out onto the water, traversing the sea on one of the excursions offered by tourist companies. The views from the boat are often the most rewarding aspect of the journey, affording incredible vistas of the surrounding landscape. For such a small island and population (less than two miles long and just over 700 permanent residents) Ventotene manages to offer a selection of notable landmarks. Carcere di Santo Stefano and Parrochia Santa Candida are two standout attractions, and Museo Archeologico provides an insight into the island’s history.

How do you get around Ventotene?

Pretty much the entire population and tourists choose to travel on foot.
