The Cruise Barcelona and her sister ship the Cruise Roma are a totally new concept of ferry offering facilities normally only found onboard a luxurious cruise ship. There’s a huge selection of cabin accommodation, a choice of restaurants and bars, a swimming pool, casino, wellness centre, videogames area, children’s playroom and a Boutique.
The Cruise Barcelona ferry features 411 air conditioned en-suite cabins with a choice of inside and sea view (outside) and around 70 luxurious suites. If you’d prefer not to book a cabin then there’s a choice of around 150 reclining seats.
The Cruise Barcelona has no shortage of places to eat and drink. Choose from the wonderful menu in the à la carte restaurant or help yourself in the buffet style self-service cafeteria. For a quick snack there’s also a fast food lounge. Drinks are served in Smaila’s bar or for same late evening entertainment head to the night club. During the summer months you can also have a drink in the swimming pool bar.
The ship contains a boutique which sells many high street brands as well as magazines, confectionary and travel essentials.
In addition, you’ll find a Swimming pool with sundeck, a Casino with black jack and roulette tables and a wellness centre featuring a sauna, Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, relaxation area, massage halls, beauty treatments, solarium and a gymnasium. If you want to surf while you sail then head over to the internet cafe.
Children are well catered for onboard the Cruise Barcelona which features a dedicated child’s play area to keep them occupied during the trip. There’s also a video games corner for the older children.
Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Cruise Barcelona guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

"They put the grim in Grimaldi"
The general vibe of the ship is like a 1 or 2 star hostel. Finding your cabin is particularly challenging because of the signage and layout. To add insult to injury, when we finally found the cabin, a notice on the door said to go back to reception to get another room (equivalent, not an upgrade). It took us 30 minutes hauling our luggage up and down the ship and two tiny escalators to finally get into a cabin. Then because we took a nap from exhaustion unfortunately we missed the three course restaurant dinner we prepaid for because they closed at 10. I did ask two staff members near the restaurant beforehand what time the restaurant opened and closed, they said till "20 hours till something - possibly (ineligible) thirty". We went to reception to complain, the manager said "sorry if you were given wrong information, but there were announcements prior." And this touches the other major issue on board: the staff English is generally terrible with one or two exceptions. Unfortunately the guy doing the announcements isn't one of those exceptions. The accents are too strong and the phrasing too foreign. If you're competent in Spanish or Italian, you'd do well to rely on that. Self service breakfast also closed at 10am, so be careful if you like to sleep in. I strongly suggest you DO NOT PREPAY for any extra on board and ring reception as soon as you get into your cabin to ask for opening and closing times. In case you don't understand for sure what they say, confirm the times in another language, Spanish or Italian, if you can. This is not a cruise line, this is a ferry line - it's a practical service for lorry drivers. They don't really care if they piss off the customers or not, so set your expectations accordingly.
"Trip to Italy"
The first impression sets the tone: 1. Embarking on the ship was unsafe and unorganized. People arriving on the charter bus to get on the ship were crossing the pathway of the cars driving on to ship. 2. The bathroom for room 8086 was dirty. The shower was/is filthy. 3. The booking for the ship was overbooked, causing people to sleep in general and public areas. 4. In the public areas the bathroom doors are locked causing the passengers without rooms to suffer or use other means to relieve themselves. 5. The restaurant times are not user friendly. The Bar is staff with only one person to work it. Return trip: 25 Aug 2023 The trip was delayed for some reason departed around 1:20 am, instead of 23:59. The customers should have received a courtesy email. The telephone in the cabin doesn’t work and air conditioner is hard to turn off.
"Dirty & Uncomfortable but does the job"
Travelled from Civitavecchia to Barcelona with Grimaldi ferry, it was very run down and dirty. Toliets were so unclean and never had toliet paper (definitely were not cleaned for the entire 21 hour journey. Not many comfortable places to rest and the food looked expensive & bad. Ultimately it was fine for us because it was cheap & it was an A to B situation but if I was going on holiday I would have been disappointed - save yourself the Hassel and fly.
"Really dirty "
The journey was ok. But everything was so dirty on the ship. The shit was everywhere in the toilet: on the wall, doors and the floor. Maybe the toilets in the private cabin was clean. We paid 20 euros extra for reserved seats in a room with 144 seats and 15 people. It was a shame that it is even an option to get reserved seats. Have not used any catering
"satisfied"
i was happy
"Verry bad day "
Verry dirty and the staff is verry unfriendly. My jacket got stolen and nobody smiles
"Rome to Barcelona "
Get the gate opening times correct on the ticket
"Good Value"
Ship lovely. Rooms great. Ate in restaurant which was good. Lots of room for parking. Set off late, arrived very late. Shambles at the end with free for all driving off not good.
"No cruise Buth a Ferry Itali-barcelona"
the italy-barcelona crossing with grimaldi lines is definitely not a cruise. it is a ferry with faded glory full of boozing drivers. there is a lot close on board and the ship is downright dirty.
"Barcelona Cruise"
Boarding was chaotic with staff shouting loudly at drivers but no two saying the same thing! Our cabin was roomy enough although you had to be a contortionist to use the shower with getting wrapped up in the curtain. Meals were poor with no indication of what was included in the prepaid options. A couple of prostitutes plying their trade to the many truck drivers albeit fairly discreetly we did come upon them agreeing a price in a stairwell. Getting off the ferry was a complete free for all with people reversing down ramps and no staff in sight. Slept well though
"Leaves a lot to be desired"
The grimaldi crossing was a reasonable price. The cabin we stayed in was dirty on the floor and bedside cabinet. The sheets were clean but had holes in one. Dogs are allowed everywhere and there was several times when there was dog poo on the top outside deck. This was cleared up eventually. Dogs peed up bins chairs and wherever they wanted out on thisdeck. I think this is totally unacceptable. I booked the standard self service lunch €15 which saved quite a lot if you just bought from the menu on the day, however, I would consider the food was poor and not worth €10 anyway. The boarding ay Barcelona was somewhat chaotic. The ships were ontime.
"Trip Barcelone Sardaigne and back"
Confortable cabins for the night. Some delays on the return but the company offered breakfast and reduce price for dinner as compensation. It was appreciated
"NEED A LOT IMPROVEMENT "
I was Extremely disappointed with the fact that I need to use the washroom about 6 times and I couldn’t was my hands with SOAP.!!!!! Unreal. After using the washroom I NEED to wash my Hands.!!! Also the Garbage cans where overflowing with garbage ( few hours after we left porto Torres) That was my first experience with your company. I hope in the future you can make sure that this Issues are Resolved. Thank you
"Barcalona cruises"
BAD
"Barcelona to Porto Torres"
The ship is in need of notable maintenance. There were no menu tariff displayed for food and drink. While the main choice was ok, the chips (only other accompaniment available) had been laying on the hot plate for some time & was tired and cold.
"Good enough!!"
Nothing to say, but the water in the bathrooms is only hot, never cold water!!
"Grimaldi should protect their costumers at their parking in Barcelona"
At the parking next to the ticket office our bag was stolen from our car by very professional criminals with two cars. We think that Grimaldi should do more to protect their customers.
"A let down!"
The port of Civitevechia was totally chaotic. Staff on board weren't particularly friendly. Toilets on board were dirty and in a shabby condition. Food wasn't good.. about as far from a mini cruise as is imaginable. However, the price was good, the saying was smooth and we left and arrived on time. Even with all the minus points I would use this route againnd in
"The cabins"
The cabins were dirty sheets hole and stained floor dirty did not like walking barefoot sink dirty, one towel was wet but as we found difficulty in finding the room and it was 10pm at night just wanted to lie down.rest of the ship was clean and staff helpful.
"wakeup too early"
wakeup too early more than 2 hours before arrival, delayed boarding on the ship
"Insalubridad "
"VERY DIRTY!!! "
The cabin inside was VERY DIRTY!!! there was dirt everywhere! didn't wash the floor! It looks like the bed has just been changed! We have three person in cabin but towels only one! Window - dirty!!! Not recommend this line! :( Sorry …
"Disgusting "
Awful, dirty, disgusting.
"Very dirty public spaces "
Very bad
"Grimaldi with emphasis on GRIM"
The outside of the boat was excellent and the lounges clean and huge but there were major problems with the toilets! Lots of then blocked and complaints from passengers. The main bar was closed, the self service dining room not operating! On the whole it looked like a ship on the way to bankruptcy with lots of maintenance not carried out. I would avoid this trip and this shipping line if possible.
"Civitavecchia to Barcelona Ferry "
Compared to other ferry companies, Grimaldi are poor. Loading was late and just as were about to drive aboard, we were informed only the driver could stay in the vehicle meaning my wife and child had get out and board by foot and I had to carry our luggage from the car deck on my own. Nobody to direct you to you cabin. Woken up continually during the night by repeated announcements for the intermediate stop and forced to vacate cabins (so they could clean them) two hours before docking. Getting off the ship was horrendous. All cars on our deck had been driven in up to a bulkhead, so we all (at last a hundred plus cars) had to reverse!! off until sufficient had got away so we could three point turn around. Nightmare. Will never use again. We recently traveled from Santander with Brittany Ferries who are brilliant in comparison
"Low cost"
I booked through directferries and didn't had options to select cabin. It put like this: accommodation/siting which means on the final ticket a chair. We tried to contact the Grimaldi barcelona to change to cabin and it was imposibil. When we arrive to do the check in, the cabin was sold out. Lot of people sleep on the sofa where the bar because i suposse that they didn't booked cabin or chair.lounge was. They have a super small pool for adults and another one for kids that was unfunctional. A super large que for the self catering but the only thing that I can say is good was the taste of the food. The toilet needs improuvment and cleaning. Totally the lowest standards. I had better experience with Dfd or P&Q from Dover to calais
"Filthy Toilets"
I still don't k ow how to book a cabin. Bored purser was too uninterested to do anything other than shake her head. Ferry drops you in the middle of a non polution zone somyou get fined driving away from the port. Food was dreadful and the toilets were filthy.
"Grimaldi lines retitled Comedy Ferries "
We sailed from Barcelona to Civitiavechia on Tuesday19th on Cruise Barcelona and back on Tuesday 26th on Cruise Roma.
"Cabin cleanliness "
There were no crew to show the passengers their cabin and the crew were congregating on one deck with people getting lost , the bathroom didn’t have any towels the toilet didn’t work , the sink tap hadn’t been cleaned for years , no toilet paper, what else can I say when Grimaldi has got the monopoly
"Nice enough but Really Low on Staff"
As for punctuality and value for money, really, really good. The ship left and arrived on time and considering we took a car, had a cabin both ways, for two people, 240 euros TOTAL i think was very good value for money. The ship was clean and although the cabin is mall with the smallest shower in the world, it was nice enough for what we required. The Bad - Firstly, the sheer lack of staff. You queue for an hour or more for a simple coffee. Finding your room is almost impossible and you find it due to sheer luck, rather than skill. Some simple, ' rooms 100 - 150, this way' signs would be good. But no. There are signs that say rooms 100 to 150, 150, 200' then you walk along and your room is not there, as you enter a middle section that say's 'rooms 458 - 528' or something. Its an absolute mess and there are NO staff to help. Literally, none. They say ' go to reception' except that is harder to find than the rooms! So frustrating. Ok, The Food. You can't call the self service ' food' Its expensive and absolutelly AWFUL! 50 euros ! As i walked along the food counter everyone in front of me received two pieces of chicken, but when it came to me, i only received one. When i asked why, they said it was the last piece. But i was still charged for the full portion. Bad point No.3. The announcements! They announce something then literally every 5 minutes, they keep announcing! Not great when tryingt to have a siesta! Bad point No. whatever. Smoking! There is a big INDOOR room, right next to the self service 'restaurant' where it's full of people smoking, with the doors wide open and it STINKS! Why allow smoking on a ferry? Also, in the bar on the top floor, under the roof where most people sit, again, smoking and it STINKS! So i couldn't sit up there as it was so smokey. Awful! Finally, checking in on the return. ZERO communication. We arrive at the counter over two hours early only to be told that you just sit in your car and you check in as you enter the ship. So we did that. Then we received a sticker on the car to say we've checked in, but we still have no cabin key. Again, no communication on this. So eventually, after two hoirs waiting doing nothing, we then drive onto the ship only them to have to queue for an hour to receive our key for the cabin! They could have done thos at check in! Absolutely ridiculous.l Finally. The 'entertainment' is basically the 'reggaton club' blasting out music while loads of creepy men who teach the classes, perv over the women. Summary - Cheap travel which i wouls use again but more staff is required and much, much better communication is needed as it's absolutely terrible.
"Late Departure"
We were sailing on 6th May at 00.30, bearing this in mind we were prepared for a late night. At lunch time on 5th May we were informed it was going to be delayed until 01.30 which you accept and can't be helped. What we had problems with was it being delayed further and no one letting us know even the ground staff didn't know and were not being told anything. We finally started loading just after 02.00 by which time we were very tiered and I'll admit quite grumpy. Then to top it off when we got down for breakfast which we had paid for, we were told they'd stopped serving and we could have a coffee, water and croissant from the café So all in all it was a relief to get on dry land albeit 3 hours late.
"Decline of service"
The facilities were awful, No lounge area or access to health centre, masks were not being worn and no one tried to inforce it. Dogs were in the cafeteria despite signs saying that they were not allowed. Ship arrived 2 hours late then it took nearly an hour to disembark
"Health and safety"

"Pretty poor really"
