GLD Atlantique

GLD Atlantique was the brand name for the first Franco-Spanish 'motorway of the sea', linking the ports of St Nazaire (Nantes) and Gijón.

Originally a joint venture between Grimaldi Lines and LD Lines - 2 of Europe’s largest Ferry Operators, the passenger service is now operated under the LD Lines brand.

The Saint Nazaire Gijon ferry route is operated by an 800 passenger capacity vessel featuring all the facilities expected of a modern day ferry.

The 'motorway of the sea' concept is to relieve congestion on roads crossing the Pyrenees (especially the N10 trunk road) and reduce the environmental impact of vehicle transport by offering a shift from road to sea.

GLD Atlantique Customer Reviews

  • "Very good"

We were satisfied with our journeys, although our inbound journey was cancelled. You dealt with the problem very well.

  • "recommendation "

I've probably already begun this journey twenty times. Starting from Saint Nazaire to Gijon or the other direction. Twice I had very rough seas, but it was always to bear. The ship is relatively quiet, but that is something any judge differently. Rooms are in order, the restoration and the great halls also. Annoying are two details: Before the nightly descent, especially in winter when it is dark, the captain can darken the large windows of the salon. The light disturbing when navigating, they say. That may be, but it annoys the passengers if they can not stand when you drop. Later, at sea, it does not matter. And one more detail: The sheets barely covers the mattress. Even while you do so the mattress is blank. This is unhygienic and could easily fix. I have slept in many beds already on the ship and it was always the same.

  • "An hassle free crossing"

Despite a rough sea at the end of December, the crossing went well. We arrived in Gijon rested. Boarding and disembarkment were very well organised. I cannot comment on the quality of the restaurant, as I didn't try it.

  • "St Nazaire-Gijon crossing"

A very good journey. We were welcomed by a very pleasant staff, the boat is confortable. The duration of the crossing was respected. I wouldn't recommend it to people who are sea sick.
