Ferry to Guernsey reviews

  • "easy to book"

I used Direct Ferries in my planning for our trip to Guernsey. As a single mum with two boys (one a teenager!!) the less hassle, the easier life is, especially when the logistics of 400+ car miles to get to the Ferry had to be negotiated first. I booked on line and was quickly confirmed and updated. Due to car issues, I had to change cars twice before our travel. Each update was quick and easy to do and was clearly processed when we checked in. On board the ship was clean and comfortable. The hoover staff used to clean up a passengers' dodgy tummy didn't help, as it seemed t share the odour round the whole area. The staff noticeably remained unflustered and cheery throughout. On or return we were sat near one of the exclusive seating lounges- controlled by an entry pad. Several customers forgot the code. My boys had remembered it from watching others and happily shared it with the customers. Some received this well, others seemed a bit annoyed. I guess if paying extra you'd expect that exclusivity. It added to my boys' pleasure, but perhaps an entry card or something more discreet would work better.? The food we chose was well presented and well cooked, with options for all. I did later decide Id like another green tea and tried to purchase the unlimited refill for an extra pound (as the ad. stated) I learned however that you cant do that after a purchase. That seems a bit unfair to me and a bit misleading - so beware - if you think you'd like it, buy it at the time....unless of course the Ferry change their policy. Both journeys went well, there was a longer delay on etruning to Poole(it seemed they took 4 lanes of traffic down to one check point).

  • "To Sark and Back"

We love travelling with Condor on the Commodore Clipper. It is a comfortable, gentle start and end to the holiday in Sark. We have been doing this for many years, and would not wish to change. A reclining seat to Guernsey, and a cabin for the return journey, add to the comfort. The food is good, and the service (especially from the Purser) is excellent. There is just one thing that causes us anxiety - that is, will we get to Guernsey in time to catch the 5pm boat to Sark? Usually we do, though on 2 occasions we have had to find accommodation in Guernsey for the night, as we have missed the Sark boat. Apart from the hassle, it adds expense to the holiday. On several occasions it has been a close thing. Our son and family has has the same problem. Although everyone has done their best to help it would be ideal if either the Commodore Clipper could get to Guernsey a bit sooner, or Sark Shipping leave a bit later - then the inevitable delays that occur from time to time would not be so crucial.

  • "It wasnt choppy! "

Havent taken the ferry for 30 years and the ships have changed! Really enjoyed both journeys which were on time or early. Clean comfortable seating in Horizon. Didnt eat, but food looked good and staff were friendly and professional. Now going by boat to Guernsey, it was worth the extra time, beautiful sea and island views. Already booking next year for family.

  • "Our first holiday to Guernsey"

Had two great crossings to and from Guernsey. The Condor Liberation was prompt, comfortable and smart. The car loading staff were very pleasant and helpful. On the return crossing from Guernsey on 16th July, the meal serving bar could have done with one more member of staff to serve drinks. (The person on the till also had to serve drinks and seemed a little stressed). Overall we were very happy with all the facilities and would definitely use this crossing again.
