Poole Cherbourg Crossings cancelled until Friday
Date: 09 Aug 2010 16:30 Source: Direct FerriesPoole Cherbourg Ferry crossings have been suspended until at least Friday. Technical faults affecting the 'fast cat' ferries are being blamed for the disruption.
The 86-metre Normandie Vitesse was taken out of service last Friday for repairs to the pistons in one of its four engines after a fault was discovered with the oil lubrication system. Condor Ferries announced its Rapide would take on the route serviced by the Vitesse. Now the Rapide has developed technical difficulties, a Condor spokesman said, adding that a date for reinstating the ferry was not yet available.
A spokesman for Brittany Ferries said its daily crossing from Poole to Cherbourg had been cancelled yesterday and would be suspended today and tomorrow.
Passengers booked for crossings to or from Poole would be able to catch ferries leaving or bound for Portsmouth, he added.
All customers booked on the affected ferries were being contacted, the spokesman said, and would be offered refunds if they were unable to use the Portsmouth service.
