Kalundborg Overview

Kalundborg is a modern and lively market town, located in the west on the Danish Island, Sea Land (Sjælland), with a population of ca. 16.000.

The town is well known for its ancient past and just taking a walk in and around the town, will lead to several relics in form of ancient memories and different wars.

The climate in this part of the country is more dry and sunny than the rest of Denmark, and is ca. 100 sunshine hours above the country’s average.

Both in the older og newer part of the town you will find a good selection of restaurants and bars, some of these overlooking Kalundborg Inlet, which is a real pleasure for the eye.

The town is surrounded by beaches, and makes it easy to find a nearby beach that is not too crowed.

Transportation in Kalundborg

By Car Kalundborg is connected to the other Danish cities by the Danish major road network, and is only an hour drive outside of Copenhagen.

By Train Several daily train services connect Kalundborg to Copenhagen and other major cities on the island. Trains can also be taken to the other island of Fyn and the mainland, Jutland.

By Bus Bus services connect Kalundborg to other small towns and major cities.

By Ferry Mols Linien operates several daily ferry services from Kalundborg to Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city.

Kalundborg is a modern and friendly ancient market town, offering something for all tastes. The town and its surrounding have a selection of parks, green areas and beaches, and amongst these, some places, memories and ruins from the ancient times can be spotted. The area also contains a wide range of museums and galleries, from Bispegaarden, which have the more than 600 years old, council hall, restaurant and changing art exhibitions and Summerland Sjælland, which is a theme park for the whole family and offers a great day out, to Kalundborg Museum Garden, where you can find more than 37 different kinds of ancient doctor -, spices-, kitchen-, colour and poison plants.
