Liverpool’s Birkenhead ferries depart from the ultra-modern Twelve Quays Terminal, off Tower Road and provide a gateway between England and Northern Ireland with a ferry service run by Stena Line.
Birkenhead’s popular ferry connection with Belfast has been running for many years and has passed though the hands of numerous companies including Norse Merchant Ferries, Norfolkline, DFDS Seaways and now Stena Line. The Birkenhead crossing currently runs year round with a choice of day or night sailings.
The twenty five million pound ferry terminal was opened in 2002 and boasts some top class facilities for those who pass through its doors, whether with tourist vehicles or commercial freight.
From the M53: Follow signs on the M53 for Wallasey Docks, which is the last turning before the exit to the Mersey Tunnel entrance to Liverpool. Follow this road (Wallasey Dock Links Road - Dock Road) for approximately two miles, keeping straight at first roundabout and then right at second roundabout (Tower Road). This takes you across the Four Bridges (Tower Road). Stena Line ferry terminal is on the left, approximately 400 yards past the bridges.
From Liverpool city centre: Take the Wallasey (Kingsway) Tunnel from Liverpool. Once passing through the pay booths, take the left exit lane. At the roundabout, turn left into Gorsey Lane to a set of traffic lights, turn left and follow the Dock Road to another roundabout. Turning right takes you on to Tower Road (Four Bridges) and Stena Line Terminal is on your left.
On exiting the Birkenhead (Queensway) Tunnel take an immediate left (u-turn) to the toll booth (unmanned - correct payment is required) from which you will enter Chester Street. Continue ahead to Canning Street and follow until the third set of traffic lights/tram crossing. Turn right and the entrance to the terminal is on the left.
