The Calais Seaways (renamed from Norman Spirit) is used on the popular Dover Calais route. There’s plenty to keep you occupied during the short channel ferry crossing with a range of venues to shop, eat and drink as well as comfortable seating to unwind in. You’ll also find extensive outside decks, a children’s play area, internet access and a games arcade.
All tastes are catered for in the self-service restaurant with a choice of meal deals and a menu tailored for children and vegetarians.
Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Calais Seaways guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

I usually go from Portsmouth, decided to go from Dover this time. Cheap no frills crossing. It was busy on the ship and the food was good. Hour and a bit later in France. Ideal.

"Great Food as Always."
Driving for 2-3 hours to even get to Dover, then the wait to board ship,I am usually the first in the Q for something to eat! Great range on evening sailings chose the Beef with creamy mash and veg and spotted dick and custard all for a tenner. Compare that to other enclosed venues like o2 or silverstone where they steal your wallet it's great value and as good as any village pub. Must be the polite french chef's and staff that really put the effort in. Quite why you would want to use the tunnel with no catering or view stand by your car for 40 mins then stop in France at the first Cafe for refreshments, thus making it a similar time to cross is beyond me...and it's more expensive. I go over 2 or 3 times a year for the last 20 years and find the service great...thanks.

We enjoyed sailing to France with DFDS on May 20th (night sailing) and we were very comfortable. The ship was really clean and everything was spotless. It was uncrowded too, being mid-week and midnight (12-30) sailing. It was slightly delayed but not unduly. I enjoyed my late Dinner on board. Returning 2 weeks later, I again enjoyed the meal and the ship was very clean and tidy. It was more crowded - Saturday night - but not uncomfortably so. We appreciated all the announcements being made in English, French and Polish languages. We felt happy on board and the Crew were polite and friendly.

Taking any ferry on this crossing was a first for me as I usually use the tunnel, but I will happily use DFDS in future as long as the prices remain competitive. The booking process, finding way into and out of the ports, registering/passport control, loading and unloading, time on board, all seamlessly simple and perfectly enjoyable. Plenty to do onboard if you wanted or needed to keep children entertained, staff friendly and efficient, plenty of comfy chairs to snooze away the short crossing if that's your thing too. My Calais/Dover crossing was late lunchtime and while there was still plenty of choice for food, one downer for me was that the fish/chips I chose (living in France it's been a while!) was disappointing so have dropped one star there. Dropped a half star also for punctuality - the Calais/Dover leg was late, though not by too much and didn't have a serious effect on my onward journey. It was purely price which initially tempted me away from the tunnel, but it was a combination of price and service which will make me return. I had forgotten how beneficial it is to properly relax for an hour and a half between my seven hour drive in France, and four in UK. Thanks DFDS!

"weekday morning ferry crossing"
Smooth sailing, hardly knew we'd left port.coffee not too expensive. Ferry left on time and travelled quick. Compares favourably with shuttle on price and speed. Probably easiest cross-channel ferry I've been on at 1.5 hrs.

Everything was fine, don't needed to wait too long to departing. The trip was good. The parking was a bit tight, by my opinion. As you can see my wing mirror on the driving side..Someone kicked, or something like that.

"DFDS - my regular ferry"
DFDS do the business. My recent trip went well and was on time. My only gripe is the state of the toilet cubicles - broken locks and floods at the start of a voyage - not acceptable in my view.

"Dover to Calais"
On a lovely but blustery day I took the DFDS ferry to France, booking the trip through Direct Ferries. The arrangements were seamless and at the appointed time we departed the ferry berth and were soon unloading in Calais. The crew were great and those working the restaurant were helpfull and cheerfull making it a memorable trip for my first time granddaughter.
