Genoa Tangier Med Ferry reviews

  • "Recent trip to Barcelona"

Unfortunately there was a problem when I paid for the trip and the ticket had only my name on it, so at Genova I had to change the ticket. As the terminal is being renovated I found it extremely difficult to get to the ticket office. Then there was a problem when we were about to get on board because we had apparently not checked in, but we had checked in and when I went yet again to another place to sort this out they told me we were chacked in and to go away. However, they did not want to let us onboard. In the end someone came and sorted it out over the telephone and we were allowed onboard. We have never had this problem before. It seemed like one person did not know what another one was doing. Once onboard everything was ok. It is unfortunate that if people have to pay for a sleeping seat, there are still people all over the various decks sleeping on the floor. This gives a very bad impression and does not make me feel safe.

  • "Very little customer information provided."

No signs indicating where to go or what to at the Genoa terminal.. No indication as to when and how to board ship. No signs on board advising restaurant opening hours.. A general lack of customer information.

  • "Ship was OK, but disgusting food"

The food at the self-service was gross, meat and fish baked dry, sauces with weird off-flavours. Coffee served in plastic cups. The cabin was decent. The bars felt stuffy.

  • "All well"

No problems at all. Arrived, was given the key for my cabin, travelled to the destination and got off! The cabin was fine, although a couple of things not working (the in cabin radio control, but I don’t know if there was even anything to listen to!) or open (it’s January!). Otherwise all fine, friendly crew, clean ship. The food is expensive, so it’s worth getting the food vouchers as you end up paying a bit less

Genoa Guide

The Italian city of Genoa lies on the Mediterranean Sea coast and is located in the Liguria region of Italy. The city's old town, which has a long and rich history in art, music, architecture and gastronomy was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. Additionally the city was declared the European Capital of Culture in 2004 and is also the birthplace of Niccolo Paganini and Christopher Columbus.

The maze of squares and narrow streets make up Genoa's historic centre. The city has influences of the medieval about it, along with 16th century and Baroque influences (San Matteo square and the ancient via Aurea, now via Garibaldi). Visitors can still see remains of the 17th century walls near to San Lorenzo Cathedral, which happens to be the most attended place of worship in Genoa.

Genoa's port is Italy's largest commercial and industrial port, and one of Europe's busiest ports in the Mediterranean Sea. The ferry terminal, located in the Calata Chiappella, between Ponte Asserto and Ponte Colombo, is on many levels and is accessible by passengers in wheelchairs. On the terminal's top level visitors will find waiting rooms and a shopping centre. Ferries operating from the port generally depart towards Sardinia, Sicily, Corsica, Spain, Tunisia and Morocco.

Tangier Med Guide

Tangier-Med is a cargo port located around 40 km to the east of the Moroccan city of Tangier and is one of the largest ports on the Mediterranean Sea and in Africa by capacity, and was opened in 2007. The second phase of construction in the port began in 2009 in order to cater for the growing demand of the port's services. As well as catering for cargo, Tangier-Med is also home to a new passenger terminal, which replaces the city of Tangier's port as the destination for ferries and passenger ships arriving from Europe. Located inside the terminal building you will fine a Bureau de Change, ATMs, and a small shop selling newspapers, book, cigarettes and snacks etc. There is also a café on the upper floor.

The history of Tangier is very rich, due to the historical presence of many civilizations and cultures starting from before the 5th century BC. Between the period of being a strategic Berber town and then a Phoenician trading centre to the independence era around the 1950s, Tangier was a refuge for many cultures. In 1923, Tangier was considered as having international status by foreign colonial powers, and became a destination for many European and American diplomats, spies, writers and businessmen.
