The Eurotunnel car train service runs between Folkestone and Calais via the channel tunnel in just 35 minutes. Once onboard passengers stay with their vehicle throughout the channel tunnel crossing in bright, air-conditioned carriages. You can sit back and relax, or get out and stretch your legs. Pre-boarding at both ends there's plenty to do at the Eurotunnel terminal with a selection of shops, fast food restaurants and bars.

"Quick, simple easy"

Maybe because it was out of season but the journey both ways was so easy... the longest delay was at UK border on the French side coming home. Efficient on the approach, signage and, on the UK side outbound anyway, people directing you.

"Convenient, quick and easy way to travel to France"

Smooth method of travel to France. I like the way that if you turn up early, they offer you an earlier train than the one booked. Catering could be better: seemed to be only junk food outlets. The dog parks have been drastically reduced in size since Brexit: the one on the UK side is now tiny compared with the lovely play park they used to have, and on the French side I could only find a tiny enclosed square of grass, instead of the reasonably-sized dog park they had pre-Brexit. Duty Free is barely worth it. There seemed to be lots of expensive Australian wines and lots oif expensive English sweets and chocolates. The French goods were ok but were the most expensive brands possible (Maxim's) so I could have got the same goods much cheaper in France in more normal brands. .

"A time saver"

We have always crossed the Channel by ferry, but needed to get across in a hurry and booked the Eurotunnel. It was a big time-saver, maybe 3 hours quicker, and perfectly comfortable.

The booking and check in process is smoot, but the train puncutuality is in question. I booked for 10.20pm train and I was rushing from the airport to meet the booking time. I did arrive 60 minutes earlier but the trains was delayed to 11.13pm. It should have been notified via SMS so that the passenger does not necessarily stress out

I will never travel with direct ferries again. I made a mistake with my booking, not being computer literate. I was due to travel in one week but couldn’t alter the booking on line, there’s no way to telephone. Sent numerous email which weren’t replied to. On the morning of travel someone telephoned. We had to cancel the booking and pay again. This time we went direct to Eurotunnel site.

Booked van with you guys your asked for ref of van make and model ! When I arrived I was sent back to ticket office at 5am missed my 520 departure! "Worst Tunnel Crossing ever experienced"

I have travel on the /chunnel since it opened in the 90's. The outward and return journey [14th and 21st August 2022] were the worst I have ever experienced and will try really hard not to have to use it agian, preferring to use sea crossing or North Sea crossing. The wait without communication of any sort in the blazing sun was unforgiveable, not reasons were given for extreme delays until a lady told us, after I chased aroubnd to find something out [I had 2 children with me] that trains were too hot to load a full train so only half trains were going. We were at the terminal 3.5 hours. Coming home, no boards worked, we were all herded onto the departure concourse and left until an unliste train that looked lilke 2 together took us back 30 minutes late. But as you now have to check in at lease 75 minutes before departure this makes this crossing untenable in furture as far as I am concerned

I collapsed in Germany, attending doctor called ambulance and I was rushed to hospital. My wife then nursed me back to the UK over 3 days, cutting our holiday short, explained situation to Eurotunnel, who say I understand, but you have to buy another ticket at €190, well get you on the next train, but then staff all say different things constantly sending you back to the parking lot.

Our journey with our car/ caravan was good. However my only complaint is that as a first time pass anger I was not told that you should not straddle a carriage with your vehicle/ caravan, this resulted in me having to reverse a 7m caravan back doen the train carriage which was difficult and stressful. This could be easily resolved by informing pasengers before they board the train.

"Great to be back travelling"

This was my first trip to France since November 2019, so a well overdue visit to see the family. My ticket had originally been purchased in 2020 and I was very grateful for the flexibility in changing my trip I believe 4 times. Although i travelled the day after all the various issues following the weekend, I left early and made it early so was well pleased. There were delays and I travelled an hour after scheduled time however that wasn't an issue at all.

The train was on time. Inside the carriage was a bit grim. As a disabled passenger the staff were very kind to me and left space to get my wheelchair out. Unlike the ferries. In fact I stayed in my car. The carriage was very hot.

"A recent trip"

My friend and I recently completed a round trip to France via Le Shuttle. We arrived at Folkstone check on time and as there was little or no traffic we were moved to an earlier train. Loading was quick and well directed. Similarly on the rteturn very much earlier train which was much appreciated. i suspect in the height of the season things will be different. i have heard some horror stories. the crossings was fast and unloading likewise. to be honest I did not enjoy sitting in my car for the crossing but as it took 35 minutes no problem. To sum up quick and efficient due to low traffic levels. On the whole I prefer the ferry as the voyage is part of the holiday.

"Cars with wide tyres/alloys watch out"

All in all a very pleasant and quick ride. But being my first time I did not know how narrow the cab is. My car has bigger and wider alloys which got damaged. For that reason I would recommend cars that are modified in the same way request the bottom cab where bigger vehicles usually go. My car is a c class with pokey rims and if I use the Eurotunnel again I will be asking to be put with larger vehicles on the bottom cab.

"Difficulty changing a booking"

I previously entered a review where I complained that DF would not allow me to change a booking less that 24 hours before the time booked, even though Eurotunnel were happy to do so. You replied saying it was possible to change the booking up the scheduled time. You are mistaken. I tried to make the change, but got a pop-up saying I could not change the booking as it was less than 24 hours before the time booked. Fortunatley Eurotunnel could make the change for me. I would stress that the change was not due to our capriciousness, but due to the fact that we were advised the evening before not to drive in the south of England on Feb 18 due to gales. Please note that replies below refer to Eurotunnel and not to DF. DF would get a significantly poorer review.

Sadly unable to use this service/Eurotunnel and the ticket we had booked in good faith, due to a family member testing positive for covid and French authority rules - we wished to transit through France only. Direct Ferries hounded me for an outbound travel date, when clearly we weren't able to provide this but still took the cost of changing the date for our return. We've been unable to use either, and no comms or assistance from Direct Ferries about a being able to change the dates! Really poor service but happy to take your money.

Due to COVID last year we were not allowed to travel, it took 9months to reschedule the crossing for this Christmas, I emailed and requested to change our outward trip from one day from the 19th to the 18th Dec......I am still waiting for a response. Because it was necessary to travel on the 18 we had to book through eurotunnel at great expense. The major issue was our return trip we were stopped at eurotunnel and told that because we didn’t use the outward journey it invalidated the return part of the ticket meaning that we had to pay another £260 for this part of the trip making the booked return trip under direct ferries booking was about as useful as a chocolate teapot which all could have been avoided if Direct Ferries had responded. WE WILL NEVER BOOK THIS WAY AGAIN, and will advise anyone not to book eurotunnel through Direct Ferries

I tried to amend our booking as we were unable to travel due to Covid but the price on the amendment changed 3 times - each time I accepted the price it came back a few days later with a further increase. I tried to contact customer services and they did reply but neither response gave me a helpful answer to my questions. So I am totally unimpressed with Direct Ferries! I have not yet managed to get a satisfactory conclusion to our travel predicament but suspect that we will have to accept that we have lost the money and we will re-book travel for 2022 with a different company!

I have traveled the channel many times over the years but this was only my 2nd time using the Eurotunnel and it has left me very impressed indeed. The check-in process is very smooth, there are hourly departures and the 35 minute crossing time almost seems to include the time to disembark on arrival - it is all very quick indeed. I've always enjoyed the charm of a ferry crossing and to roam around on deck with the family but if time is a factor then you simply can't beat the Eurotunnel.

Hi - really happy with our booking from Direct Ferries, especially as I messed up the return dates and changing them was quick and easy using the manage my booking page. One thing: Nowhere I saw in your booking information is it clear that I need to supply my passport details for the return journey from UK to France - I had entered my passport details once when I booked and thought that was it, but I had it ALL explained to me in tones I would hesitate to use to a toddler by the humourless Tunnel check in bloke. He took some time in telling me how wrong I was, and how people ' couldn't be bothered' to enter their details - it was pretty unpleasant, and he went out of his way to criticise Direct Ferries for not telling people to do it. As far as I know I didn't see anything stating that I had to do this for the return journey, so please, Direct Ferries, spell this out for the irresponsible among us who can't be bothered to deal with trivial details, even if it does concern us being able to get on the train. Otherwise - brilliant service and we see no reason to change anything, thanks

As France was going into lockdown I tried to contact Direct Ferries to bring forward my return crossing. It was not possible to change it on the website due to their malfunction. The phone helpline was a recorded message for 3 days. Eventually I found an email address for customer service. 10 days later that email remains unanswered. I will never use your service again & I will tell anyone I know to do likewise. In the current circumstances you should hang your heads in shame & embarrassment. Eurotunnel itself was great once I got there.

"The trip that never was..."

I received this review form today - the day after I did not travel from Folkestone to Calais on Eurotunnel. I did not travel because we are in the middle of a global pandemic and the Prime Minister has told the whole of the UK to STAY AT HOME. So I did. Of course I anticipated this and tried to contact Direct Ferries almost 2 weeks ago to find out what to do about my booking. I never got a response, apart from an email telling me that all queries would be answered closer to departure dates. Well, mine wasn't and I am still waiting for that response from Direct Ferries. My booking was one of those non-refundable jobbies. I get that - it means that if I do not travel I cannot get a refund. However, this is different HM Government ordered me NOT to travel and it is a matter of literally life and death. Call me naive but I do not expect Direct Ferries to profit from such a situation. I might add that all of my other trips which were booked for this period have been honoured by the travel companies such as P&O Ferries, Brittany Ferries, Booking.Com - in each case they have either refunded, or issued a voucher for future use with not an extra penny in charges. I still wait patiently for a response from Direct Ferries, or if you prefer Indirect Ferries, or even Profiteering Ferries. Only time will tell. Best regards Neil

Sorry, I am only allowed to give 5 stars. We were in Spain during the coronavirus. Our ferry crossing from Santander was cancelled. I booked a crossing with you for Wednesday evening. I drove 1,100 miles in three days and arrived on the Sunday three days early. Somehow, you managed to find space for our 7m motorhome on the very next train. Your staff smiled as they helped us. Their calm, pleasant attitude was very much appreciated by my wife and myself. 35 minutes after the train starting off, we were back safe in the UK. Thank you once again

I was unable to add my dog to the booking on direct ferries website and was very worried about it but the most wonderful people at pet control told me not to worry: they checked my dog’s passport (vet’s proof of anti-helminthic treatment) and chip, added him to the booking and explained that I could go straight to check-in and pay extra there-so I did. Got on early trains on both journeys, fabulous lounge with free drinks and food and lovely clean toilets and friendly staff BUT best of all we received the most amazing service when I left my mobile phone in the Flexi+ lounge in Calais on our return trip on Monday evening and by Wednesday afternoon it was back at home with me. The trains were clean and punctual both ways. I was able to transfer onto an earlier one on the return journey, arriving 30 minutes earlier than planned, which was very useful. Staff very polite. In the Immigration area the directions are not always clear. One is never sure to be going in the right direction in the wide spaces of the immigration areas.

We enjoy the shuttle very much - and drive back and forth to London often - and the service is always excellent. But we never know precisely when we will get to the ferry terminal on account of London and M20 traffic. For this reason we usually book later than we arrive, and then we are faced with a £75 charge if we want to go earlier. This seems entirely unnecessary when the train being ridden is empty - as yesterday - and we would appreciate it if the Shuttle stopped making such early-bird charges.

I bought a flexible ticket that allows amendment and I was running late so I called the number provided and asked for a later train but was the change will cost me £20 so I refused and proceeded towards Folkestone. When I arrived, the lady at the barrier told me I was late for my 18:50 train so she gave me a pass for the 19:20 WITHOUT ANY EXTRA CHARGE. So be aware- if you are late and you had paid the extra fee for a flexible ticket - don’t get ripped off on the phone!

What a nightmare. We were traveling from Birmingham to Prague by car on a Christmas road trip and decided to cut our travel time by booking the Eurotunnel. We paid extra for an amendable ticket to find out you can amend it but at great cost!! Another £47 over the £135 we already paid. What a rip off. Then when we get to our allotted time to travel on the train we were delayed by 90 minutes!! Never again, the ferry is so much more fun, faster and cheaper, don't waste your money on Eurotunnel!!!

We are resident in France but are returning to UK after living in France for some years. On our Calais to Folkestone leg we had our 2 dogs & 1 cat with us. We then left all animals in uk in kennels/cattery in UK and returned to France for our final van load to move permanently to UK. When booking Eurotunnel you cannot have pets on just one leg (the system will not allow it) so it showed on the booking we had the pets on the return leg & oh boy it caused confusion at check in. They just did not see why we were not bringing the pets back to France. We got grilled about having no pets? They just could not understand despite our explanations. Maybe in hindsight I should’ve booked a oneway trip to UK with the pets & then a one way trip back without them?? Also the way we did it (return) we had to pay for pets returning to France when in fact they stayed in the UK. I think Eurotunnel just need to change their system so you can remove pets from either leg of a return trip. Surely we cannot be the first people this has affected. ? Other than that and a really grim toilet block adjacent to lane 14 at 9am (no early morning cleaning of facilities??? ) the journey was good. Both trains ran on time :-)

Couldn't fault my trip on the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais. Was even quicker than the time stated. Friendly and helpful staff as well made the journey easy. And even on returning I arrived 2 hours early and managed to get on the earlier train. Perfect. Thanks, I'll definitely travel with them again.

"Can't find snails...."

Booked on Le Shuttle to depart at 10.50 as I had a possible 4 hour drive because wifey wanted to enjoy some french cuisine. Pleased to arrive at the departure terminal early was even more happier to be asked if I would like to travel on the next shuttle. Excellent personal at check points who enjoyed a laugh and a joke with us. Sadly though I couldn't find a restaurant in Calais that served snails or frogs legs for wifey. Anyone reading this if you know where I can find a place let me know...

Very quick to purchase a ticket for Le Shuttle. Website well laid out, purchase transaction was smooth. When we arrived at both Folkstone and Calais, just drove up. ANPR recognised the car, I did self check-in, and away I went. You can check the facilities and shops online; everything is clean, working and efficient. Very happy and have just booked another crossing with Direct Ferries.

We like to take the train to France being my wife is disabled it is far easier for us to travel this way. Also, being disabled there is a separate lane for blue badge holders for boarding, wonderful idea and staff are always friendly and helpful.

"Our first experience of Eurotunnel - but certainly not our last"

We often travel to London for business and pleasure, and tend to use Eurostar for business and the ferry for family trips. Last weekend we needed to travel to the UK for a family birthday, and - following a friend's recommendation - decided to give Eurotunnel a go. Our experience was overwhelmingly positive. The Eurotunnel offers all the benefits of the ferry in terms of being cost competitive and allowing you to bring your car (and as much luggage as you can fit in). However, we found it better than the ferry in that the loading and offloading is much quicker and the crossing time is much shorter (35 minutes as opposed to about 2 hours), and the terminal is easier to get to. Also it is presumably less weather-dependent than the ferry as you are travelling in a tunnel. You also don't have the hassle of having to vacate your car and decamp to the upper decks during the journey as you do on the ferry (which is undoubtedly a great bonus for those with mobility issues). Not leaving the car will also be a great bonus to us in the future when we travel with our dog and don't like to leave him alone. Overall we were very impressed with the experience (bar a delay in our outbound journey due to a technical traction issue) and will certainly use Eurotunnel in the future.

We arrived 3 hours early and they put us on the next available train an hour earlier than the one we booked. The loading and unloading of the train was very efficient, although more expensive than the ferry we would probably use it again, we were impressed.

First time we’ve been on Eurotunnel, and we were really impressed by the swift and efficient checkin and boarding process. However, on our return yesterday afternoon, it was only AFTER we had checked in that we discovered there had been earlier cancellations, and there were now substantial departure delays. Why can’t this be displayed ahead of checkin? We were actually early, and had we known, would have gone away and done something else, rather than sitting in an overcrowded car park for potentially more than 3 hours.

Staff are great trip went well, only problem was on my return journey I had to allow for the traffic from northern UK on a Friday and as such arrived at the tunnel too early, I was offered an earlier train at a cost higher than my original ticket or to be turned away and return 4hrs later, I was told the solution is to buy a flexible ticket but to do this makes the tunnel uncompetitive with the ferry, who I might add have in previous crossings put me on the first available boat regardless of arrival time and never turned me away from the dock, this I would assume is going to cause chaos should the expected Brexit traffic arrive

"Not a great experience"

After queuing for a while to check in, we finally made the front & were handed a ticket to hang from our windscreen. We were then directed to wait in line behind all the other motorhomes, campervans etc. A French gentleman working for Eurotunnel then knocked on our window & asked if we were in a campervan to which we replied “yes”. He then proceeded to ask in an extremely rude manner “then why have you booked a small car?” We gave him the paperwork confirming that we had booked for the correct vehicle. He advised, again, not in the most professional manner that we had used a company who were “assholes” & that they always got bookings wrong. He asked us to park up & he would speak to his manager. He said we would have to pay extra & would miss our departure time. His manager made a call & basically advised the same & asked us to meet her at the passenger information place. The gentleman who assisted us there was very helpful & professional & advised that it was in fact it was a mistake made at checkin. We did not depart until 10:10am, we had booked to go on the 8:20am train! This had a knock on affect & we ended up incurring extra charges due to no fault of our own!

I was very disappointed and an annoyed when i tryed to amend my return trip on the 20th of September. I couldn’t change it because I was informed on my application that I couldn’t change my trip once the outbound journey had commenced although when trying this it said that it was changed but when I arrived in Folkestone this was not the case. I had to report to the Le Shuttle office and was told that they couldn’t help me and had to pay another £173 to get to Calais...
