Things to do in Menorca
Although you could easily spend way longer than a day exploring Menorca, here are our top things to do on a Mallorca to Menorca day trip:
Explore Ciutadella
The ferry from Alcudia will take you to the port city of Ciutadella, Menorca’s former capital city. You could spend your whole day in Menorca just exploring the charming cobblestone streets of Ciutadella with its beautiful architecture and restaurant-lined plazas.
It’s a place bursting with history with ancient landmarks at every turn. Top sights in Ciutadella include Plaça des Born, Cathedral of Santa María and Castle of Sant Nicolau.
Visit in June and you’ll get to experience the Fiesta of Sant Joan. This vibrant festival marks the start of summer with horseback riders parading through the streets.
Take a trip to Mahón
As well as visiting the ancient capital of Menorca, why not visit the current capital, Mahón? It’s located around 40 minutes from Ciutadella so bear that in mind when planning your Mallorca to Menorca boat trip.
Mahón is a beautiful city with streets lined with Georgian-style architecture. It’s got a vibrant atmosphere with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants lining the streets.
There are also plenty of things to see in Mahón, from ancient fortresses to stunning churches, amazing museums and a famous fish market. It’s also home to the second-largest natural harbour in the world. One of the top things to do in Mahón is to take a boat trip round the harbour and see the city from a different perspective.
Climb up Mount Toro
If you fancy an adventure whilst you’re in Menorca, we’d recommend climbing Mount Toro. It’s the highest point in Menorca which means…picture-perfect views! Due to its location in the centre of the island, it makes a great stop-off point on your way to Mahón. There's also a cafe at the top of the mountain where you can grab some lunch.
Although weather isn’t guaranteed, try and choose a clear day for the best views. Sometimes, you can even see Mallorca!
Hike the Camí de Cavalls
Adventure-seekers may also fancy heading to Camí de Cavalls, a 185km trail around the Menorcan coastline that was originally used for coastal defense and patrol.
You don’t have to do the whole 185km but you could do a short stretch on your day trip to Menorca. You’ll get to experience the island’s diverse landscapes, uncovering secret coves and historical sites.
Relax on the beach
If you’re more about relaxation than adventure then Menorca has you covered too. This laid-back island is the perfect place to relax. And the best way to do it? On the beach!
Menorca isn’t short of stunning beaches. From smaller secluded coves to endless stretches of sand, there’s a beach for everyone. Some of the best beaches in Menorca for your day trip include Cala Galdana, Son Bou, Cala Turqueta and Cala Macarella.
Visit Fornells
Fornells, a peaceful fishing village with stunning white-washed streets, is a must whilst you're in Menorca. Here you’ll find a natural harbour lined with traditional wooden fishing boats known as llauts and Torre Fornells, a preserved defensive tower offering incredible views of the island.
Fornells is also known for its great foodie scene. Caldera de Langosta (lobster stew) is the most famous dish which you can tuck into in a number of restaurants in the village.
Drink in a cave at Cova d’en Xoroi
What better way to finish your day trip to Menorca than by sipping cocktails to sunset views? Cova d’en Xoroi has become a must-visit in Menorca. Located in a cave on the cliff-edge on the south coast, it offers a unique and spectacular setting to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.
