Dublin is a busy and important port, with over 1.7 million passengers passing through each year. The port connects Ireland with Wales, France and the Isle of Man with around 8 daily and 55 weekly sailings. 

There are 3 passenger terminals at Dublin ferry port. Irish Ferries operate from Terminal 1, with services between Dublin and Holyhead and Dublin and Cherbourg. Steam Packet also offers a seasonal service to and from Douglas in the Isle of Man, with services also operating out of Terminal 1. Stena Line operate from Terminal 2 with services to and from Holyhead whilst P&O Ferries operate from Terminal 3.


Dublin port location

Dublin ferry port is located around 2 miles or around a 10-minute drive from the centre of Dublin, although the exact distance from the centre depends which terminal you are travelling from.


Getting to Dublin port

  • By car: Thanks to the port’s convenient road connections, you can easily reach Dublin port by car. The M50 goes right to the port. Depending on where you’re coming from, the M50 also connects with the M1 and M2. 
  • By train: You can also get a train to Dublin from various destinations such as Cork, Limerick and Galway. 
  • By bus: Regular buses operate between Dublin city centre and the ferry port. Alternatively, taxis are also available.

Arriving at Dublin port

Arriving as a foot passenger

If you’re travelling as a foot passenger, staff will be there to direct you. You will either have to walk to the terminal building or there will be a shuttle service provided. You will then need to go through customs, so make sure you have your passport and any other necessary documents ready to show. Once you’re through, you can either get a taxi or a bus to the centre of Dublin.

Disembarking with a car

If you’re travelling with a vehicle, follow the instructions on when to disembark the ship and where to go. You will also be required to go through customs checks. The port connects to the M50, making it easy to continue your journey onwards.

Visiting Dublin

Although you’ll find countless Irish pubs scattered across the city where you can enjoy the amazing Irish hospitality and live music.

The surrounding area

Dublin is a great base for exploring the surrounding region too. The charming village of Howth is a popular spot, located around 30 minutes from the capital. The Howth Cliff Walk is its main attraction, with hiking trails where you can soak up stunning coastal views. It’s the perfect place to escape the buzz of the city! We’d also recommend a trip to Wicklow, also known as the ‘Garden of Ireland’. Here you’ll find the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It’s another place that’s perfect for outdoor adventurers with incredible landscapes comprising of lakes, mountains and forests. If you don’t mind travelling further, there are also famous attractions such as the spectacular Cliffs of Moher that are easily doable on a day trip from Dublin.
