Lavrio is a small town located on the southeast coast of Attica, a region in Greece. The town is located around 35 miles from the centre of Athens. Despite being home to the city’s third-largest passenger port, Lavrio manages to stay off the tourist track. Known for its ancient mining operations, there are a fair few sights to see, along with an array of seafood tavernas, markets, cafes and shops to explore.
You can explore the centre of Lavrio by foot. If you’re venturing further, taxis are local buses are available too.
Although not quite as busy at Piraeus and Rafina, Lavrio can still get very busy in the summer months. The port connects Athens with other Greek islands in the Cyclades and the Northeast Aegean. As well as passenger ferries, it also serves freight ferries, cruise ships and local boats.
You can walk or get a taxi from the centre of Lavrio to the ferry port. If you're travelling from Athens city centre, it takes around 1.5 hours to reach the port by car or taxi. KTEL also operate a bus service between Athens city centre and the ferry port. The journey takes about 2 hours. Alternatively, if you're travelling from Athens airport, Lavrio port is only a 30-minute drive away. You can also get a bus from Athens airport to Lavrio port although you will need to change at Markopoulo.
There is no parking available directly within the port area. However, there are plenty of private parking spaces nearby.
The port is located close to Lavrio town centre so you’ll find plenty of amenities just a short stroll from the port including toilets, shops, restaurants and vehicle rental services.

Syros port is located in the island’s capital, Ermoupoli. The port connects Syros with both Athens (Piraeus) and many other Greek Islands. The port serves both conventional and high-speed ferries.
You can walk to Syros ferry port from Ermoupoli centre in just a few minutes. There is also a bus station located next to the port which connects the port with other villages on the island. Taxis are also available.
Parking is available near to Syros port, although it can get very busy during the high season.
Amenities at the port include a passenger terminal, ticket offices and vehicle rental services. Due to the port’s central location, you’ll find many more amenities within walking distance including shops, cafes and hotels.
