Portoferraio Ferry
Portoferraio ferry port is situated on the northern coast of the island of Elba, within the ample bay of the same name, and is made up of two distinct parts – the port itself and the outer harbour.
Leaving the old Darsena Medicea (Medici Basin), today used as a mooring for pleasure craft, you arrive at the Calata Depositi (depot quay) and the Deep-Water quay, Thanks to its position in the middle of the historic centre, the large car park nearby, which may be used by coaches for excursions, and the potential for large ships to berth there, this quay is the preferred mooring for cruise ships.
The Deep-Water quay is linked by way of a connecting wharf to the Italia quay, which stretches to the southern extremity of the ferry port itself. There are three jetties extending from this quay. These, the G.Massimo, the number 3 and the number 1 jetties, are used by the passenger ferries which link the island to the Piombino ferry port, but should the Deep Water quay be occupied, can offer adequate mooring to visiting cruise liners.
