  • "A very long wait!"

Our ferry over to Bornholm, from Sweden, was fine. It is a lovely comfortable ferry with a good canteen. Unfortunately trying to leave Bornholm was not so smooth! We were booked on the 2.30pm to Ystad but in the morning we rang and changed our time to 12.30pm. We arrived at the ferry terminal at 11 am and waited. At 12.30pm there was still no movement. At 1pm cars from behind us started moving into free lanes and it was mayhem. We thought they were all trying to push forward to get on first and we thought it was strange that there were no yellow jackets around to control the embankment. Eventually we followed, to discover everybody was leaving the terminal. We raced around to the information place to discover the ferry had a technical problem and wasn't coming and by now the next available ferry to Ystad was at 10.30pm!! We then telephoned Direct ferries who said they could get us on the direct ferry to Denmark at 5 pm which would take 5.5 hours. As this was our final destination we agreed. This ferry seems to be a lot older and more of a booze cruise. Groups of people arrived with crates of beer. It was very noisy. After our drive home we eventually arrived at midnight. What a long day. The biggest complaint is that there was no sign or warning of any kind about the lack of ferry. Where were all of the people working at the terminal???????

  • "A lovely island"

It was very easy to book via internet but impossible to reach anyone on the phone. The check in via the ticket machines was also good, it was possible to get help with rebooking as well if there was space. Bornholm as an island is wornderful and should be visited by more Swedes. It is relatively expensive to do the crossing with a camper as we did though, almost 4000 SEK which is probably a reason to some people not going. If you are a senior it's half price apparently, that seems more reasonable. The crossing is fast and you have time to both eat and do some shopping. No red sausages on the ferry will make the grade go down a little but though, but we made up for it on the island.
