We queued in the correct ‘pens’ in Paros, our ferry arrived….but no-one opened our gates 3&4 where we were waiting, and the ferry left without us. Luckily for us, there was another of your ferries 1/2 hr later, and we all got on that! It was traumatic to see our ferry depart without us.

Travelling between Piraeus and Naxos was fast, comfortable and very pleasant. The ferries are super clean with plenty of seating and facilities. Lots of staff on hand to provide guidance on where to go. Service was on time. Food was ok and reasonably priced.

Excellent trip back to Athens from Paros on Blue Star Naxos. It’s worth paying that little extra to travel Business Class where the lounge is quiet and restful and with excellent waiter service throughout the trip.

Read More Read LessLocated in the Cyclades group of islands, in the Aegean Sea, is the Greek island of Schoinousa, or Schinoussa, is located to the south of the island of Naxos, between the islands of Irakleia and Koufonisia. The town of Mersini is home to the island's harbour which is known as one of the best shelters for small ships in the Aegean region. The island's capital is called Chora and has pretty authentic Cycladic architecture, with white washed houses adorned with beautiful Bougainvillea, cobbled streets, churches and lovely views of the Aegean Sea. There is a rich cultural history on the island with a number of monuments bearing testimony to its history. Popular attractions on the island include the Church of Eisodia Theotokou in Hora, the Church of Evangelismos at Messaria, the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum and the Cave of Peiratis which is located along the road that leads to the port.
The island is also popular with hikers who enjoy exploring the island by hiking along the island's mule paths, some dating back to Classical times. The paths criss-cross the island and provide wonderful views. Some lead to secluded beaches, remote mountain scenery, secret valleys and some unspoilt villages.
The Greek island of Koufonisia is located to the east of the island of Naxos and to the west of the island of Amorgos, and is made up of two islets named Pano Koufonisi and Kato Koufonisi. The two islets are separated by a strait which is around 200 meters wide and the island's name is derived from the Greek for "Hollow Island" which is a reference to the large caves which led pirates to believe that the island was hollow when viewed from the sea. Located close to Koufonisia is the deserted island of Keros which has been declared an archaeological site that is under protection because of the many Cycladic artefacts that have been found on the island.
Pano Koufonisi is the only inhabited of the two islets and is a popular destination for visitors who want to relax on the island's golden sandy beaches or to swim in the island's war, crystal clear waters.
