Hirtshals Overview
Hirtshals is a town in the North Jutland County on the north coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark.
Hirtshals is the busy centre of commerce, fishing and ferries for the entire Vendsyssel region, and the town is proud of it.
Hirtshals is one of the most important fishing ports in Denmark, and there´s always plenty going on in the harbour area. There´s a unique atmosphere at "Monument og Trappe" and "Den Grønne Plads", which connects the port with the town - right in the centre with direct access to the pedestrian precinct.
Hirtshals has a lively shopping centre, including 60 special shops, 9 supermarkets and grocer´s shops.
There is plenty of entertainment and music on offer for children and adults alike. And don´t miss the culinary delights of the 20 restaurants, cafés and bars to be found in the town.

Transportation in Hirtshals

By Car: From Odense: Head towards the E20 North then take the E45 North towards the E39 all the way to Hirtshals. Motorway from Hamburg (E39) all the way to Hirtshals.
By Train: Hirtshals can be joined by train from Esbjerg as well as Odense amd Kiel.
By Ferry: There are frequent ferry crossings to and from Norway operated by Color Line sailing between Hirtshals & Oslo, Kristiansand, Stavanger and Bergen via modern conventional ferries and fast ferry sailings during the summer season.

Hirtshals Attractions

Hirtshals is home to the North Sea Museum, one of Denmark's largest tourist attractions. The museum has one of the largest aquariums in Europe. It was built in 1984 and was expanded in 1998 with an oceanarium, an aquarium with 4,5 million litres water. Hirtshals Museum is situated in an old fishermans house built of stone in 1880. It shows how a fishermans family lived in 1880 and exhibits two of the oldest types of fishing boats with fishing imolements used by local fishermen. Asdal Kirke (church) was built in 1475 in Late Gothic style as the chapel at Asdal Manor. The Communion cup is from 1700 and the bell from 1627. The Fun-Park in Hirtshals is a 30-acre nature park and deer farm. It offers Direct contact with child-friendly animals, a large playground and moon buggies as well as many other amenities. The town's 35 meter high lighthouse, Hirtshals Fyr is a local landmark. Building was begun June 28, 1860, and it was first lit on January 1, 1863.
