Hirtshals is home to the North Sea Museum, one of Denmark's largest tourist attractions. The museum has one of the largest aquariums in Europe. It was built in 1984 and was expanded in 1998 with an oceanarium, an aquarium with 4,5 million litres water. Hirtshals Museum is situated in an old fishermans house built of stone in 1880. It shows how a fishermans family lived in 1880 and exhibits two of the oldest types of fishing boats with fishing imolements used by local fishermen. Asdal Kirke (church) was built in 1475 in Late Gothic style as the chapel at Asdal Manor. The Communion cup is from 1700 and the bell from 1627. The Fun-Park in Hirtshals is a 30-acre nature park and deer farm. It offers Direct contact with child-friendly animals, a large playground and moon buggies as well as many other amenities. The town's 35 meter high lighthouse, Hirtshals Fyr is a local landmark. Building was begun June 28, 1860, and it was first lit on January 1, 1863.
